As in the question. I'll make a short list of titles I already own below; Armada 2526 gold Star ruler 1+2 Sword of the Stars Reach for the Stars Masters of Orion 1+2 Horizon Galactic Civilizations 2 Space empires 4+5 Civilization 2-5 Call to power 2 Age of Wonders Shadow Magic (if you consider it being a 4x game, but it has always had that feel to me) Alpha Centauri Sins of a Solar empire Distant worlds Of all these, I find that Armada hits just the right spot in general, although each of these games have their own tinge and each has its own pros and cons. I would prefer if you wouldn't suggest the latest most prominent titles, like galactic civs III or endless legends, because I have to run all my games on an aspire X3910 (unmodified), and it can hardly manage Civ 5 on lowest settings in a 1024*768 window and with a small world:p. I'm not a very demanding person in regard to graphics or UI's (something 4x games tend to trip over sometimes), so it's no problem if the game looks a bit dated, or if it takes a bit of getting used to the UI's quirks before you're happily zipping arround the different windows.

It really doesn't matter if the game is realtime or turnbased. Good, tricky AI opponents are a must as well! Imperium Galactica Alliances was and is alright. Played in 640 x 480 mode only I think.
It was 4 CDs and depending on who you played is I think the CD you used. Patched I think up to version 1.08, was different, had to juggle things on the Planets (not much room) and had spys you could send. It was a story also for the game. Came out about the year 2000. Thus why a CD for the alien you played because of the story was different for each alien.
Always the finding patches might be a problem though. Might have changed resolution with the last patch as the patches mentioned by a player review on the Review page for the game. It was a good game, but limited in the space battles, but had them anyway, well everything was kind of limited like I said about the planets - changing things when running out of room.
Lost Empires: Immortals can have less stars, I think the smallest is 150, actually you can make it maybe anyway you want to, but the stars are like cities in the fact that you inhabit the solar system, but ya, it is different and I also found patches for that - about 4 pages in doing a search of the game. Might be over in France perhaps, but they had all three patches for it. I think the patch would cover the languages the game was installed in - in my case I never look past 'English' as that is always listed first on the patch. But Imperium Galactica II Alliances is much better game even at the lower resolution it had neat graphics and neat spys and any of that.
I should look for the patches I think I still have the game maybe, I should have I still have MOO3, but I consider Imperium Galactic II Alliances better in some respects but also was limited in computer opponents - I think only 3 (including the player) in the game. Queens of the stone age like clockwork rar download torrent. Have to review about that game. The review states 8 alien races. Well, it may run fast nowadays depending on the comptuer as it was not turn-based but real-time, but still you could slow it down or speed it up - 3 speeds I think.
Oh, yes, tanks on the planets also and other things, battles in space around the planet. All was limited a bit in scope but it had a lot in the game. The story was the main part of the game I suppose. Need the patches for the game though. You get to play - one of the three alien races (major). Thus a 4 CD game, one for each alien race due to story and one for the game.
Mentions a player patch to play it on Windows XP. It has that patch here but not the other ones that are needed - patch 1.06 and patch 1.08. When dealing with a game that old, it may not work probably made for Windows 98 first or second edtion.
Old, old game. Which does not ensure that it will run at all nowadays. Well, like always, after a few years, any game is harder to make it run when switching from 16 - bit computers to 32-bit computers probably. Still no links found to the 1.06 patch or 1.08 patch. This might be too hard to try even if I still have the game, which may not be.
