I got the 40' version of the 5520 on Wednesday and what can I say? It's a HUGE step up (not only in screen size) from my previous LE32A436, but it is also worlds apart in every sense of the word! The screen is super glossy, which took a little getting used to at first, but now I don't notice it that much.

Blacks are super black and I can honestly say that I haven't yet noticed any clouding anywhere on the screen. Oh, did I mention the best bit? I managed to get the set for the stonkingly good price of £499 inc free delivery (I was originally looking at the lower UE40D5000 model @ £479 from Dixons/PCW/Currys) from the really nice folks at Harris Electrical in Hackney. All-in-all, I couldn't be happier with my choice of set. Click to expand.I got this TV yesterday from John Lewis, to replace our old Sony 32' CRT. It's very good from what I've seen so far - albeit not quite as good as my 43' Panasonic plasma (a mere 720p).

Unfrtunately I do see 'clouding'. For example, last night on the Junior Apprentice, they display black images for a couple of seconds while cutting between scenes and there are clearly cloudy patches around the edges (notably the top right on ours). I've played around with contrast and brightness etc which has reduced it somewhat. Right now, my kid is watching a mkv 720p movie in USB.

It's not as crystal as the Panny - in fact it looks a little low res (like an impressionist painting). What's the cause of that? Keiron's comment ' last night on the Junior Apprentice, they display black images for a couple of seconds while cutting between scenes' is that a black flash while cutting camera angles?

I get what I describe - not for a couple of seconds, rather a few frames - but noticeable, and I thought that only happened on Freeview HD and was something to do with the BBC experimenting? I definitely noticed it on Junior Apprentice last night and I switched to SD instead to watch it because it became too annoying. I was under the impression (the issue I describe, or mine and Keiron's if they are the same) was nothing to do with the TV set itself? Hi, I've just taken delivery of a 40D5520 after our beloved Toshiba 32ZD26P died suddenly. I'm pretty impressed with it so far. I do have a couple of queries though with a shedload of questions! We still rely on a VCR for our recording purposes.

I can't find much in the manual to show the correct set-up for it. I've got the aerial cable plugged into the TV and the VCR seems to record via just a scart connection. Am I doing it wrong?
